Toyko 2020 is off to a cracking start after being delayed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s so far been an Olympic Games unlike any other, with athletes often competing in front of very little or no spectators.
There are also new sporting events at the Toyko Olympics. You can read the full list of new sports in the line-up this year here.
Team GB have had an incredibly successful start with five gold medals under their belt, three of which were achieved in just five hours on Monday, July 26.

And while it may feel like Tokyo 2020 has just started, some are wondering how long the Olympics lasts so they can note down the closing ceremony. Here’s what you need to know.
When does the Tokyo Olympics end?
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics – being staged a year late in 2021 – started on Wednesday, July 21, at 9am local time and will end on Sunday, August 8, after two weeks of competing.
This year the event has seen more than 11,000 athletes compete across 33 sports.
New sports this year include karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, baseball and softball. You can read more about them here.
When is the Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony?
Unlike the opening ceremony, which took place on Friday, July 23, two days after the Games started, the closing ceremony will be on the same day the last event takes place.
It will start at 8pm local time on Sunday, August 8, – which is 12pm in the UK.
There won’t be any fans at the ceremony due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic but a message has been posted on the official Olympics website.
It reads: “Even if we cannot be together, we can share the same moment, and that is something that we will never forget. It is this salient message which we believe will create a Closing Ceremony that will open the door to a brighter future.”
