Alan Tate has said he will continue to take charge of Swansea City until they find a new manager.
The Swans have identified Jody Morris and Russell Martin as potential candidates to replace Steve Cooper who departed last week.
With the managerial post still vacant, Tate oversaw the Swans’ 2-1 pre-season triumph over Forest Green Rovers on Wednesday night.
And the club icon stated the club need a new boss before their Championship opener at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, August 7.
“I’m in charge until I’m told otherwise. Whatever’s happened with the new manager, I don’t know, it’s out of my hands,” he said.
“Julian’s [Winter] dealing with that along with the owners and I’ll leave that with them.
“It’s a proud moment for me leading this team out tonight, I’ve had loads of proud moments at this club.
“I will cherish the first one tonight, but apart from that, what’s going on above me is above me.
“I’ll continue doing what I’m doing until I’m told otherwise.”
On the impending appointment of a new boss, he said: “The sooner the better, however that’s going to play out.
“One thing we do need, we need someone in full charge before Blackburn. Probably before that, the build-up to Blackburn.
“Julian and the owners are best placed to decide that. Until I’m told otherwise, I’ll plan to take the team on Saturday.”

Goals from Yan Dhanda and Ben Lloyd earned the Swans victory against Forest Green Rovers.
They were without a number of players at New Lawn, including captain Matt Grimes who missed out due to a minor injury.
The skipper is the subject of fierce interest from Championship rivals Fulham, although Tate has stated Grimes could return to action in the pre-season friendly against Southampton on Saturday.
“He’s had a knock. He was left out of the game tonight through precaution,” he explained.
“Nothing other than that. He’s in contention to play at Blackburn.
“I think he’ll be back in training with us, if not tomorrow, hopefully Friday.
“At the minute, the plan is for Grimesy to be, hopefully involved in the Southampton game. If not, it looks like he could be involved in the Blackburn game. We’re definitely planning at the minute to have him involved in the Blackburn game.”
