Recently, the newly revamped North Wilkesboro Speedway, Dale Earnhardt Jr’s pet project, played host to its first race. Needless to say, there was a great turnout for the weekend, and one of the spectators was none other than Kevin Harvick.
As it happened, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver had a really good time at the track. He even talked about the prospect of this track ever returning to the NASCAR calendar in the future.
He said, “The main is that the people from the community showed up. Hopefully, they keep showing up and keep participating in the event.”
“It’s a cool facility, right? There’s just something about those old nostalgic facilities that you can go back to and kind of go back in time.”
“It’ll still be great when its repaved, but it still won’t be like it will be for this next month and a half.”
'@KevinHarvick attended the modified racing at @NWBSpeedway during the week, and was pleased to see the community support.

When the interviewer asked, “There’s obviously still a lot of work to be done there. Is there, in your mind a path to any type of national series race for this?”
Harvick quickly replied, “I don’t know why you would go through all that work not have something like that there.”

“That would be ludicrous to think that that track is just going to survive off of Late Models and Modifieds and Saturday Night shows. There’s no way, there’s got to be some sort of plan for Trucks or Xfinity or something that goes into that.”
What next for Kevin Harvick in the NASCAR Cup Series?
At the moment, the veteran driver is competing in the Cup race at the Michigan International Speedway. Admittedly though, he has his work cut out for him, as he will be starting the race from all the way down in 16th place. To make matters worse for him, he is in contention for one of two playoff spots, with Martin Truex Jr and Ryan Blaney.

Unfortunately for the #4 driver, Bubba Wallace is starting on pole position and is looking like a playoff threat. The #23 driver has been in fine form in the past few races, with a hat-trick of Top 10 finishes.

Considering that he excels at superspeedways, it puts him in a prime position to snatch a Playoff berth. If that does happen, then there will be just one spot up for grabs.
