With the heatwave that has left the country sweltering this week, many people have tried to escape the hot towns and cities for a cool dip in the sea at the coast.
But for those in West Yorkshire that do not fancy a trip too far afield, then Hemsworth Water Park and Playworld in Wakefield may be just the ticket.
The “hidden gem”, in Hoyle Mill Road, features its very own ‘beach’ along with a play area and a cafe for refreshments.

“Cleanliness of the park itself was above average, plenty of bin etc. The cafe was nice, and there was a kiosk too. The best thing about this place is – parking and entrance was FREE!!

One person could not get enough of the food at the cafe, they said: “We visited the cafe and was served by a very friendly lady! The sausage rolls had just been taken out of the oven! They were lovely. She also recommended the salted caramel cheese cake! It was amazing. We will be definitely going back!!”
The spot has an overall rating of 3.5 stars on Tripadvisor with the majority of reviews a four-star rating.
And the pictures that reviewers have uploaded show the sunny spot in all its glory, with a large lake surrounded by trees and grass with plenty of space for children to play.
The beach is a reasonable size but looks as though it may quickly fill up, so worth getting there early to secure your spot on the sand – and don’t forget the bucket and spades!
