What’s happening at Standedge Tunnel with firefighters, police and mountain rescue in Marsden

A multi-agency exercise at Standedge Tunnel near Marsden has seen a huge police and fire service presence in the area.

The routine exercise is expected to take most of the day and aims to increase the resilience of response teams in the event of an emergency.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’re taking part in a multi-agency exercise at Standedge Tunnel today, October 14.

“This is a routine exercise to increase the resilience of our response teams in the event of an emergency incident.

“We’ll be on-site for most of the day, so please don’t be alarmed if you see firefighters fire engines and emergency vehicles in the area.”

Partner agencies include Network Rail, TransPennine Express, British Transport Police, as well as the local Resilience Forum, Police, Ambulance and Mountain Rescue services.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service crews are also taking part in a multi-agency exercise at Standedge Tunnel today from the Diggle end of the tunnel.
