Police statement in full
Police have confirmed that a man and a woman are currently in custody after reports of shots fired in Rawmarsh this morning.
Officers were called to Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh at 2.09am today to reports of gunshots at the junction between Kilnhurst Road and Limetree Crescent.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said:
“A man and woman are currently in police custody after being arrested in connection with shots fired in Rawmarsh today (Thursday 22 July).
“Police were called at 2.09am this morning after reports of shots being fired at a junction between Kilnhurst Road and Lime Tree Crescent.
“Officers attended and a 46-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested in connection to the incident.
“No one was injured in the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
Police believe that this was a targeted incident and they are now asking for the public’s help with their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Murphy, from the Armed Crime Team, said:
“We believe this was a targeted incident and have no cause to believe there is an ongoing risk to the wider public.”
Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to report it as a matter of urgency by speaking to an officer or calling 101 quoting reference: 077 of 22 July.
DCI Murphy added:
“Residents in the area can expect to see an enhanced policing presence today as investigations continue. Officers will be conducting house-to-house enquiries and a cordon will remain in place at the scene.”
