Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway spoke out about the impact of long Covid on the ITV breakfast show today in relation to her husband, Derek Draper.
The journalist and broadcaster discussed the long-term effects of her husband Derek’s battle with coronavirus after he was left fighting for his life due to the severe damage to virus caused to his body, The Mirror reports.
Derek contracted the virus last March and spent a year in hospital including several months in an induced coma, Kate was devastatingly told to prepare for the worst before her husband began to show signs of improvement.

However, while Derek has now returned to the family home with his loved ones, he still faces a long road ahead as he continues to struggle with the effects of long Covid.
Derek, despite now being able to manage his illness at home, is still very unwell, he is one of the longest-affected coronavirus patients in the whole of the UK.

54-year-old Kate gave an update on Derek’s health and his fight to recover from the virus on Good Morning Britain today.

She explained that there are more issues becoming apparent all the time, as a result of the virus’ impact on him and his body.
Listing some of the initial symptoms that Derek had, Kate went on to reveal that damage to different parts of his body has meant that there are more issues emerging as time goes on.
Her comments were sparked when Dr Amir Khan detailed that many people were suffering from long Covid, before revealing some of the things people might experience.
He said on the show, as he also discussed the latest news on vaccinations: “Lots of people are suffering from long Covid.

“Symptoms can include extreme fatigue, brain fog, problems with vision, problems with pain, difficulty breathing, palpations, chest pain – all sorts of things.”
Kate agreed with this, before referencing her own experience as she witnessed husband Derek’s own symptoms.
She replied: “That’s only the ones we know as well. That’s the thing, more and more are emerging as different parts of the body are damaged.
“I know Derek is an extreme example of, all the time there are more issues. Initially, it was a bit of exhaustion and now it seems to be more of them presenting.”
Doctor Amir went on “That’s absolutely right. The symptoms can be mild in some and very, very severe in others.”
